Tim Kaine

I don’t have Mike Pence’s birth time so I can’t do an accurate chart for him. I do have one for Tim Kaine, however. Before the debate tonight let’s look at the chart of the man who wants to be our next Vice President.

Like Secretary Clinton, Senator Kaine has his Sun in the twelfth house. This is normally not a “normal” placement for a politician because it builds in a natural reserve and even secretiveness. Both Democratic candidates prefer the work instead of the “smoozing” aspect of the work. Senator Kaine benefits from Mercury conjuncting his Sun which gives him more charisma, more appeal than Secretary Clinton. In his case, it comes across as a kind of folksy charm.

With his Moon in communicative Gemini in the third house, a house that Gemini likes, no one should underestimate his ability to get his point across. He is battling two retrogrades in his fifth house – that of creativity and expression – so while he isn’t a speaker on par with a President Obama or President Bill Clinton, when he is one-on-one he gets his point across.

tim-kaine

Neptune and Jupiter surrounding his South Node in the mystical eighth house gives him his religious and missionary zeal.  However, when I do a progressed chart – moving planets to their current position in his chart, he has a bit too many planets hitting his eighth house in the next few years. At its core, this is the house of death, dying and rebirth – so I hope he experiences more of the rebirth and personal transformation aspect of this house.

He is not flashy, he is good at hiding his brains behind a plain exterior but no one should underestimate Senator Kaine’s brains or ability to get his point across in the end.

Donald Trump – Deeply Embedded in His South Node

As a karmic astrologer the Nodal axis of a person’s chart is fascinating – that is the pattern of the North and South Nodes. The South Node tells me about their karmic past – what traits do they bring with them in this lifetime that are memories of past behaviors.  While there is nothing wrong with our past incarnations, of course, our goal in this life should be to grow beyond them, learn new lessons and move forward. Why reincarnate if you are going to do the same things repeatedly?

Donald Trump’s South Node, Sagittarius in the fourth house, indicates that was someone fiercely involved with his family and community who held himself out as the keeper of knowledge and arbiter or what was “right.” Sagittarians love to know what is true – they love to be right. With his Moon so close to the Node and Jupiter, its ruler, in his house of self-worth, we can see how easy it is to goad him. He is emotionally incapable of not saying he knows all there is to know and he is always right. This has been a pattern for many lifetimes. This is why he says I am going to do this – and going to do that. In his mind, he knows all that is right for his community. He believes in his soul that only he can make “America great again.”

With his North Node in the tenth house, in Gemini he should be moving away from this idea that he has all of the answers and he is the lord of knowledge. Gemini is the seeker of knowledge – the sign addicted to learning all things new. Gemini demands that we open up to new ways of thinking. While the fourth house is my roots, my family – the tenth house wants us to involve ourselves in the larger world. Gemini in ten demands that we live in a world that is an open tent where new ideas are encouraged.

While the tenth house is also the house of society and government, Trump seems to be trying to impose his Sagittarian belief that he knows all into the larger picture instead of opening up to learning. He is making a slight foray into the tenth house but refuses to leave behind his old, Sagittarian patterns.

Does this spell success or defeat in November? The universe does reward baby step we take into our North Node, that is true. This may be dreaming on my part but I just can’t see his myopic, nationalist, hateful speech being that big a step forward for that big a reward.
P.S. I am so glad the Hillary “listened” to my chart advice last week to keep her cool no matter what and that Trump went full into his Jupiter verbosity!

September 26 Debates – Hillary

If you are a student of Astrology or this blog, you know that this a political year like no other. With Pluto, the change agent, in Capricorn the sign which rules authority and government, nothing is impossible. Sadly, we are seeing drastic changes to our political structure and none for the best.

On September 26, 2016 will see the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. This is a very important debate as Trump seems to be climbing in the polls and Hillary literally stumbled. For the most part, Hillary has some good signs in her chart for debate time. The Sun is conjunct Jupiter, the planet of growth, optimism and expansion, in her 10th house – the house of government. Mercury, the communicator,  is also in her tenth.

She needs to watch the square Saturn (in her first) makes with Mercury. This can lead to her expressing her anger over the press giving Trump a pass. While she is correct, she can’t appear whiny. With her Moon in the fire sign Leo, she opposing the warrior goddess, Pallas Athena, it would be easy for her to play the “poor me, you are picking on the girl” theme. This would be a mistake.

Hillary needs to rely on her brain power, her calm steady demeanor and she needs to call out Trump on his foolishness with authority. If she becomes to careless, too emotional, we are all in trouble. hillary-first-debate

Ted Williams and his “Living” Head

On August 30, 1918, Ted Williams was born. I admit I didn’t know much about his career as a kid. I was a child of the Mantel-Marris era. In fact, the only thing I knew about him for a long time was that he had that some of this children had his body posthumously frozen and stored at an Arizona cryonics facility. There is much controversy surrounding the procedure which pitted his children against one another. Leaving the emotions behind, I had to look at the astrology of a man whose body would have such a bizarre ending…or should I say beginning.
Upon casting his chart, I looked immediately to his eight house, the house of death and rebirth. Where else? Mr. Williams did not fail me. He had Pluto, Juno, Jupiter, Vesta and the Moon all in the eighth house at birth.
Pluto in the eighth is where he likes to be – Pluto vibrates to the energy of the eighty house and concerns itself with regeneration. He had to have an interest in the afterlife with that placement. Juno is the goddess of loyalty and nestled next to Pluto just enhances his desire to solve the mysteries of death. Jupiter is ever expansive and brings optimism, hope and thoughts of the future. Vesta will put roadblocks in our way to reaching our goal. I read there was misuse of his head and that employees of the facility removed it and even used as a football by some member of the facility. If true, that certainly sounds like a roadblock to me. Of course, the Moon is our emotional barometer. If Mr. Williams made the decision to be frozen I am sure he had some issues to worth through!

Ted Williams
I find this an interesting case study of our charts predicting not only our live path but live after death path as well.

To the Young Woman on the Far Right and Far Left

Pluto is in Capricorn – change in government can go either way – up or down – backwards or forwards. It is up to us to keep progress in motion.

We now have a major party nominee for President of the United States who is a female but this isn’t about one election. It is about the progress and history that has led to this moment. It is a history that I fear you are forgetting and a progress you are failing to push forward. This is a fight spanning from Mary Wollensteincraft and Abigail Adams to we loud- mouthed baby boomers. This fight encompasses but goes beyond the Suffragettes who were jailed, beaten, force fed and even killed to give you the right to cast your vote this year.

To my sisters on the far right, I see so many of you willingly throwing away the fruits of that struggle to authoritarian, male dominated religions (not just Christian sects). They tell you to be pure and turn control over your body to your husband. They tell you to be submissive to men and hide your bodies. I can understand weak, frightened men trying to sell this claptrap – I do not understand young women buying into it.

To those on the far left, you see slights in buildings with inappropriate names but you seem blinded to legislation that chips away at your reproductive rights or that which closes domestic shelters. Woman still make less money than do men for equal work, and corporate day care is a disgrace. Where are those protests?

Let me tell you how it was in the “olden days.” I am not talking about Victorian times when women couldn’t vote, would lose their children if they divorced an abusive husband and couldn’t inherit money and property. This is about life in America for women until the 1970 – 80’s.

-There were no domestic violence shelters – because the term domestic violence didn’t exist. If you married a man who beat you – that was your problem. Cops didn’t respond to “family squabbles.” Wives usually relied on their husbands for money and unless you had very receptive and wealthy parents who took you and your children in, you remained with your abuser – for life or your death.

-if your husband wasn’t abusive, but “just an alcoholic” you took a menial job, worked all day and then went home and played full time mother. There were few if any day care centers. You did this while wearing the label “bad mother” for not being home with your kids all day.

-the term sexual harassment was nonexistent. If a male made sexual remarks to you at work –that was the price of working. Since most men held positions of authority you had nowhere to turn. I had members of trade associations call me at my house with propositions of sex and even grab me physically in the work place. Had I not had a sympathetic boss – I would have had to either submit or lose my job. My story was not unique and was rather mild in comparison to others. Read the history of the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas battle.

-there was no term reproductive rights because you had none. If an unmarried college age woman got pregnant she dropped out of school and her life became one of menial jobs to support that child. The man involved went on to complete school, get on with his chosen career and have the family of his choice. There was no “pill” until the “60’s and no right to control your body until 1973.

-if you were unfortunate to get breast or another “female” cancer, you suffered in silence, such things were not spoken of and there were no support groups.

-alcoholic treatment centers were usually for men as women alcoholic or drug addicts were not worthy of organized treatment programs and were too shamed to come forward. Addiction was not lady-like.
-girls could not play organized, competitive sports in schools until 1972 and Title 9.

-want ads were segregated male and female. Male jobs were in advertising, law, science, engineering, etc. Women’s jobs were teaching, secretarial and nursing. Never the twain met.

-women gave up job and careers at marriage. If fact, women didn’t have careers, they had jobs until they grabbed a man, any man to support them. Lucky were the ones who married for love. Many did so out of financial desperation.

-women couldn’t sign for loans, buy cars or make other financial moves without their husband’s signatures. When I started by business in 1986 a banker asked me if I really thought I could “pull it off by yourself.”

-we are all incensed at the absurdly light sentence the California rapist received this week. Until the 1990’s if a woman was brave enough to file a rape case against a man her entire sexual life was fodder for the defense team. Everything she did, every time she may have had one too many drinks, every sexual encounter she had was thrown into the public arena. She was on trial along with the rapist. In addition, she then bore the stigma of “rape victim” which was another term for “what did she do to deserve it.” Watch the fantastic 1974 Elizabeth Montgomery movie “A Case of Rape” to begin to understand what it was like.

-there were no women astronauts. In 1969, nine percent of medical students and 0.4 percent of engineers were women.
Sexually based limitations pervaded everyday life. Girls only played with dolls and took Home Economics. Shop and mechanics were not for them. You became a wife and mother because you had to not because you chose that life. We had a major debate when I was a senior in high school over the idea of girls wearing pants to school. Women only wore dresses and high heels to work no matter the inconvenience.

Progress is not a resolute creature. Read the history of the Islamic world and of the time they were the leaders in science, math and progress. Learn the plight of the women of Afghanistan and Iran who led relatively free lives until recently. Look to those who are trying to make our Founding Father’s religious zealots in order to restrict the rights of woman, gays and minorities, when they were at best deists who believed in the Enlightenment. It can happen here…it is happening here. Do you want to explain to your daughters why you chose to toss away rights gifted your generation at birth?

Don’t Underestimate Trump or Pluto.

Last week I examined the chart of Donald Trump illustrating his North Node desire to make an intellectual (and I use that term advisedly) impact on society. (Gemini North Node in the 10th House.)

When I place his chart alongside that of the United States I see that his Uranus placement is identical to that of the USA. Both have Uranus in the 10th house. A sign of a desire to stoke revolution and change in the public arena. He is clearly striking a nerve with those who are “tea party revolutionaries” and want to start over.

USA and Trump

Don’t overlook his very positive signs in the 11th house, where we come together with like-minded people. Pundits have been waiting for him to implode, for his outrageous behavior to turn people off. In fact, it has done just the opposite. His Mercury (communication skill) is on the conjunction American has of Sun, Jupiter and Venus and all of this land in the 11th. He has found his way to speak to a certain set of people that speaks to their heart and hopes. Like it or not, he has struck a chord.

It is vital to remember that Pluto is in Capricorn. Pluto demands change and Capricorn controls authority and governmental entities. The last time Pluto was in this constellation we had the American and French Revolutions. Anything can happen here. We saw the (in my opinion) positive effects of this placement, in the election of our first African American president, Barack Obama. Don’t think we can’t see the election of a fascist reality star as well.

Pluto demands change. The type of change is up to us.

Donald Trump – So Loud

I hate the idea of giving any more energy to the train wreck that is the Donald Trump presidential campaign but look at his chart I must. That he has Leo rising with aggressive Mars, also in fiery Leo, sitting on the first house should be of no surprise. His self-centered, egotistical rants touting his ultimate knowledge of all things governmental are clear evidence of the arrogance given by these placements.

What I find most interesting is his South Node placement. His South Node Sagitarrius in the Fourth House – meaning he spent a good deal of time gathering information close to home – learning all he could learn about life.

Now his North Node is in Gemini ten – meaning he wants to spread all he knows to the world. Next to that Node is his Sun meaning his life forced is infused with throwing his verbal weight around. Uranus on the other side makes him love to be rebellious and shocking. Sadly, the tenth house is the house of government so he is being drawn to act out in that arena.

I hope he soon learns, although I don’t hold out much hope, that a Gemini North Node requires you to stop thinking you are the smartest kid on the block and shut up and learn. Yeah, I said I don’t hold out much hope.

Bernie: An Accurate Birth Chart?

I am being “hounded” by friends and clients to weigh in on the 2016 election. While I am a political junkie, it is hard to get a good read on the situation mostly because we don’t always have correct birth charts of the candidates. There is still a debate on Hillary Clinton (isn’t there always) as to her time of birth – is it 802 AM or PM?

There is a time for Bernie Sanders of 12:27 PM, however, there seems to be no primary source identification so I remain skeptical.

Bernie Sanders

Using this chart, we see someone who wants to make his mark on the world in a very tangible way! With a stellium of planets in his 10th house – house of career and government – his involvement in government is the stuff that feeds him. Included in this is his North Node in Virgo. His karmic path in this life is to come out of hiding in his house, (Pisces South Node in the 4th), and stop being someone who used his family as an excuse not to engage in society. I think he is doing that big time!

The retrograded Mars next to his Moon and both in Aries is a little unnerving – that indicates some buried anger. Perhaps he is channeling that anger now with his fire and energy.

Retrograded Uranus with Saturn in the seventh means that he will eventually find a way (eventually because the retrograde takes a while to correct) to infuse new ideas (Uranus) into traditional systems (Saturn.)

As someone who is very skeptical of his ability to win, I have admit that I am happy with this chart. It shows someone destined to make an impact on society. Does that mean a trip to the White House? I don’t know. I have to compare candidates charts to that of the US and to election day (so stay tuned) but win or lose Bernie will force changes.

PS He shares a Scorpio (secretive) rising with Hillary which is not great for a Chief Executive.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This week we will again mark the birthday of civil rights legend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There are so many interesting things about this chart – Venus, his ruling planet, (it rules his rising sign of Taurus) in the 11th house. He had a natural proclivity toward group leadership. The 11th house is where we come together for social change. Also in his 11th is his Moon and Ceres in Pisces – both signs imbue compassion in a person. It is clear that, even if not on such a grand scale, Dr. King would have been a person involved in social change.

Being drawn to the karmic aspects of Astrology, I find his north and south node axis very interesting He was coming from previous lives in Scorpio as his south node is in that sign in the 7th house, that which rules our intimate relationships with others. He came from a good deal of Scorpio drama, passion and control. Scorpios never back away from intensity. Instead they draw toward it – seek it – need it. This was not his first time around being in the center of some social strife. (It was also not his first time walking a tightrope in his sexual relationships.)

Dr King

His goal in this life was move away from the drama toward the realization of his Taurus North Node in the first house, the house of the physical body and public persona. This was his call for peace instead of bloody conflict in the Civil Rights Movement. Taurus is the peaceful bull who enjoys the calm and beauty of life. Venus called him to lead a peaceful (Taurus) social movement (Venus in the 11th.)

Sadly, Scorpio ruled by Pluto, the god of death and rebirth saw to it that his life was ended in a very Scorpio fashion. That should not diminish either his dream or his huge leaps into message of Taurus.

The Astrology of Political Action

Asked recently if there is a way to find someone’s propensity for political action in a chart, I had to admit I didn’t really know the answer. Being a Scorpio Sun, a loving the hunt, I started to research the topic and find some interesting information.

VOTE

While the basics of someone being a leader appears in the number of Cardinal, leadership signs, and placements to the 10th house of career or sixth house of work. With politics, there is more nuance, however. A recent study of more than 400 charts had some interesting results. People with the asteroid Pallas Athena in a positive aspect to the personal planets, (Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus) indicated a leaning towards more peaceful political inclinations and liberalism.  Pallas shows how we take up the cause for others – where we battle for the underdog. However, if Pallas was in disharmony to benefic Jupiter and in more harmony with more authoritarian Saturn, the person was more inclined to harder right, strict conservative movements.

Venus, because of her association with money, indicates how wealth influences our vote. A Venus well aspected to our rising sign or second house (the house of resources) shows someone more inclined toward free market candidates. However, with Venus closer to Neptune (a planet big on compassion) the person is more likely to vote left on economic issues.

A stronger Saturn (the stern time keeper and task master) makes a person more right in their beliefs while a stronger Uranus (the free thinker) makes one inclined to more left wing ideas.

No matter your proclivities, the important thing to do today and every Election Day is — yes! VOTE!

We normally get 37 percent of the voting population out on non-presidential years and that is a horrible number.
